Eli Manning to Lead March for Babies(R) in Manhattan
Super Bowl MVP is a Champion for Babies
NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The March of Dimes New York
Division announced today that Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning, will return for a
second year, to lead March for Babies(R) in Manhattan on Sunday, April 26.
Manning will be joined by CBS 2 News Co-Anchor, Maurice DuBois, WCBS-TV/CBS 2
Sports Anchor and Reporter, Sam Ryan, who will co-host the morning program.
"I'm very excited to be working with March of Dimes again this
year," said Manning. "Everyone can be a champion for babies by joining me and
signing up for March for Babies(R)." Manning is set to walk with thousands of
New Yorkers on Sunday, April 26.
In an effort to bring more walkers to the event, March for Babies(R)
organizers revamped the Manhattan route; shortening it from 5.5 to 3 miles. The
walk will start at Lincoln Center in Manhattan and end at Madison Square Park on
23 St. Finish line festivities are planned and will include music and
refreshments.
March for Babies(R) is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event
that benefits all babies -- those born healthy as well as those who need help to
survive and thrive. Now in its 39th year, the March of Dimes walk event was the
first in the country, and last year raised nearly $110 million dollars
nationally to support programs of research advocacy, community programs and
education. The fundraising goal for New York City this year is $3 million
dollars.
Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families
every year in the United States, including over 30,000 in New York State. Babies
born too soon are more likely to die or have lifelong disabilities. Babies born
healthy need champions too, to assure they have access to newborn screening and
preventive health care. The March of Dimes is there for all babies.
The Manhattan March for Babies takes place on Sunday, April 26 at
Lincoln Center in Manhattan. To register, or for information on other sites in
the NY metro area visit www.marchforbabies.org.

Manning brothers squaring off again _ in Pro Bowl
By JAYMES SONG - Feb 4, 2009
KAPOLEI, Hawaii (AP) - When Eli Manning was selected for his first Pro Bowl, big
brother provided some pretty simple advice - have fun and dress appropriately.
"It's a pretty easy pack coming over here, a couple pairs of shorts and some
Hawaiian shirts," Peyton Manning said.
He should know. The Indianapolis Colts' All-Pro quarterback is making his ninth
appearance in 11 seasons and will start for the AFC on Sunday.
While sharing time together poolside at their hotel, the Mannings will be on
opposite sidelines on game day. Eli earned his first trip to Hawaii in his fifth
season. He was selected as an NFC reserve behind starter Kurt Warner, who led
the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl.
"One thing about Hawaii, you don't have to work too hard to have a good time,"
Peyton said. "I know he's excited. I remember my first time being over here.
It's fun to be around these veteran players and pick their brains a little bit."
The Mannings are the eighth set of brothers selected to the Pro Bowl and the
fourth set of siblings to play in the same all-star game, joining Bruce and Clay
Matthews (1989-90), Shannon and Sterling Sharpe (1993-95), and Tiki and Ronde
Barber (2005-07).
However, it's the first time that quarterback-playing brothers have been chosen
for the same Pro Bowl. And they'll have plenty of family members cheering them
on, including their father, Archie, who played in the 1978-79 Pro Bowls.
Peyton has invited Eli to Honolulu before, but younger brother insisted on
making it on his own. Eli says it was worth the wait.
"I'm having fun," he said.
During practice, Eli threw a pass to Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith. Eli
called it, "neat."
"I get to work with some guys, then hang out with them afterward and see them on
a less competitive level," he said. "You don't always get these opportunities,
so you have to take advantage of them."
Peyton was having fun at practice, too, flinging the ball all around the yard.
The 32-year-old is coming off his third MVP season, throwing for 4,002 yards
with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
"If you can't hit Brandon Marshall and Andre Johnson on a post route, there's
something wrong with you as a quarterback. Those guys cover 10 yards a stride,"
he said.
Peyton was busy studying the plays on offense, and defense, especially with the
Baltimore Ravens' coaching staff leading the AFC. Because, "I'm on a mission to
figure out the Baltimore Ravens' defense," he said.
He also plans to spend the week taking care of his AFC teammates, bribing some
of the defensive linemen with food.
"I bought Mario Williams breakfast so he'll remember that twice next year. Maybe
when he gets that free shot, he might not drive me into the ground," Peyton
said. "Like I said, it's a fun week, but there's work to be done."
As far as life with the Colts, Manning will have to get used to being without
coach Tony Dungy and hopes to see veteran receiver Marvin Harrison back next
season. He said it's hard to think about playing without Harrison.
For Eli, he has one year remaining on his contract with the Giants.
"I don't know what's going to happen, whether they renew it or wait for next
year. I'm not all that concerned," he said. "I'm just trying to get ready to
play next year."
The brothers didn't have many activities planned, other than spending some time
with their parents and each other. That's something the former Super Bowl MVPs
rarely get to do with the long season and busy offseason workouts.
While they've faced off several times before, from the driveway basketball court
to the so-called "Manning Bowl" in 2006, the Pro Bowl will be another page in
the brothers' long-standing rivalry.
As close as the Mannings are, they do draw a line when it comes to the hotel.
"We've got our own rooms," Peyton said.

I bet he loved that!...lol. It's refreshing that he got a lap dance from his
WIFE. We hear too many stories and see photos of this celebrity or that
celebrity with a woman that isn't his wife.

Local teen wins day with Eli Manning
BY CHRISTINE VARNO Staff Writer
December 24, 2008 -- When Renee Koursaris went food shopping in October and saw
that Oreo cookies were on sale, she decided to purchase the snack and thought
she was getting a good deal.
It turned out that Koursaris was getting an even bigger deal for her teenage
son, when a package was sent to her West Long Branch home informing her that the
simple purchase entered her into a sweepstakes that she won.
The prize was a free pass to the "Catch a Pass With Eli" day at Giants Stadium.
"I thought it was a joke," Koursaris said. "You always get things saying you won
some sweepstakes. They are usually scams. But this was real."
About three weeks ago, Koursaris received an envelope congratulating her that
she had won a sweepstakes run by Kraft Foods for purchasing Oreo cookies. In
order to qualify for the Catch a Pass with Eli prize, she needed to have a child
between the ages of 8 and 16.
To her luck, she has a 14-year-old son, Stefanos, who loves football and plays
for the Shore Regional High School football team.
So on Dec. 16, Koursaris took her son to Giants Stadium to meet Super Bowl MVP
quarterback Eli Manning and participate in a football workshop.
"It was great," Stefanos said. "At the end of it, there was a scrimmage and my
team won.
"We didn't even believe we really won [the sweepstakes] and when I got there and
saw Eli Manning, I was pretty happy," he said.
The Catch a Pass With Eli event consisted of a tailgate style dinner for some 50
teenagers and their parents. The families were then led to the Giants practice
bubble and had a question-and-answer session with Manning.
"Some of the questions from the kids were pretty funny," Koursaris said. "They
asked what team he would love to play, what kind of car he drove. It was fun."
The teens were then ready to play some ball with Manning and four drill stations
were set up on the field, consisting of some running drills, tackling drills and
then finally catching a football thrown by Manning.
"You would think each kid would only get one throw from Eli," Koursaris said.
"But each kid got like seven passes from him. It was really great."
To remember the day, which happened all by accident, Stefanos was also given an
autographed picture of Eli and him taken at Giants Stadium.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning is hardly Broadway Joe Namath when it
comes to lifestyle or quips. So it seemed out of character when
Manning made a humorous comment Monday alluding to Dallas Cowboys
quarterback Tony Romo.
The Giants (12-4) have a bye in the first round of the N.F.L.
playoffs after finishing the regular season with a 20-19 loss at
Minnesota on Sunday.
Someone on the Giants' conference call asked Manning if he planned to
go to San Diego to watch his brother Peyton play for the Indianapolis
Colts against the Chargers in the first round.
"No, no, no plans," Manning said. As an afterthought, Manning
added: "My plans to Cabo fell through, so I am going to sit here.
That is a joke, by the way."
He was referring to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where Romo vacationed
last year when the Cowboys had a first-round bye. Romo made the trip
with his girlfriend Jessica Simpson, her family and some of his
teammates.
After Romo returned, the Cowboys were eliminated by the Giants, who
went on to win the Super Bowl.

SN's Pro Athlete of the Year: Giants QB Eli Manning
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=498184
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is Sporting News' 2008 Pro
Athlete of the Year.
Manning hasn't slowed down since leading the Giants to a Super Bowl
upset of the Patriots in February. The team is 11-3 and tied with
Carolina for the NFC's best record heading into the two teams'
showdown this weekend.
The announcement comes in the new issue of Sporting News magazine,
which features Manning on the cover and an extensive interview with
the Giants QB. Excerpts from Steve Greenberg's sitdown with Manning:
On whether 2008 was the best year of his life: "Yeah, I have to say
it's been up there. It's been a special year. We win four straight
games in the playoffs and win a Super Bowl; that's a good way to
start 2008. Then I get married in April. And then the start (we had)
this season. We've already clinched the NFC East title, which was our
goal. We knew it was going to be a tough challenge--a lot of people
didn't pick us to do very well this year coming off the Super Bowl--
but I think we worked hard and had our goals set that we wanted to
become a better team."
On the best things that happened to Manning away from football this
year: "Getting married was the most special thing from a personal
standpoint. Abby and I, we've been dating a long time, since college.
We did it in Cabo, Mexico, just about 70 people. That was the way I
wanted it and the way she wanted it. Both my brothers had big
weddings, where all of the sudden they're shaking hands with 500
people, some of (whom) they kind of didn't know. It didn't seem like
it was an enjoyable thing, or something I would enjoy doing. I like
being around my close friends and people I know really well, where I
can just be myself. I thought that was the best way, where Abby and I
could just be ourselves and enjoy the weekend we were down there. And
so that was the most special thing."
On life in New York: "I like New York, I really do. Right now, I
don't know if I could live in Manhattan and deal with it on an
everyday basis. But if I were coming out of college and I didn't play
football and I needed a job, I could live in New York and live the
fast-paced life. I enjoy the energy of this city. ... I love the food
in the city. That's usually what I do on a Monday night; my wife and
I will go and get either a teammate or some other friends and go eat
dinner in the city. Growing up in New Orleans, I've always been a big
fan of food. But I never really had good Italian food until I got to
New York, so that's one of my favorites. During the offseason, I like
going to plays. ... I'd love for New York to be the only team I ever
play for. It'll always be a part of my life. I think maybe we'll go
back down South, but I just don't know. If you're here long enough
and you start your family here, then maybe you end up here. It's a
special place."
On the possibility of being more of a pitchman, like brother
Peyton: "I got asked to do Saturday Night Live this year, and I
turned it down. It was almost like people expected me to do it just
because Peyton won a Super Bowl and he did it. 'Hey, you've got to do
it.' He really did pretty well, and I didn't want to have to follow
his act. I wasn't quite ready to do it. I wasn't craving to do it. I
didn't want to follow exactly what he did; I wanted to do things my
own way. Down the road, though, I think it would be fun to do
Saturday Night Live. And if the opportunity comes to do a funny
commercial, I'd love to show that side of me."
The new Sporting News magazine hits most Barnes & Noble, Borders and
Hudson Retail outlets Friday.
Cooper, who is seven years older than Eli, remembers trying to tease
the kid. He'd press all of the buttons. Call him names. Make fun of
his athletic ability. He got that same sleepy-eyed response that fans
see on Sundays.
"It was like kicking a cadaver," he says.
lol, that is hilarious.

Manning Brothers Make Pro Bowl
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: December 16, 2008
Peyton and Eli Manning were voted to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday, the first time
quarterback-playing brothers have been chosen for the same all-star game.
Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts will make his ninth appearance in 11
seasons and will start for the American Football Conference. It will be the
first appearance for Eli Manning, the most valuable player for the Giants in
last year's Super Bowl. He will be on the N.F.C. team, behind the starter Kurt
Warner, who led Arizona to the National Football Conference West title.
The Giants also have the oldest Pro Bowler, John Carney, who was signed as a
short-term fill-in for the injured Lawrence Tynes. Carney, 44, has made 27 of 29
field-goal attempts and has kept Tynes inactive for all but two games.
The Jets led all teams with seven Pro Bowlers, including quarterback Brett
Favre, who will be in his 10th Pro Bowl. The Giants, Minnesota and Tennessee
will each have six players in the game, to be played on Feb. 8 in Honolulu.
Dallas, which had a record 13 Pro Bowlers last season, had five this year; wide
receiver Terrell Owens and quarterback Tony Romo missed out.

"You always want to be considered to be elite and play to the best of
your abilities to be recognized across the league for what you are
doing," Manning said. "It is such an honor having great players that
are out there to be chosen by the fans and by the players and coaches.
It is really a tribute to our whole team and how we have played in our
offense for protecting me and making plays. I think whenever you have
guys and a number of players, three guys from the offense make the Pro
Bowl, it is just because your team is doing well and everybody is
playing well."

Eli Manning wins "Good Guy" award
Eli Manning has been voted the winner of the eighth annual George Young Good Guy
Award by the Giants' chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America.
The award, named for the late general manager of the Giants, is given annually
to honor a Giants player for his consistent and outstanding cooperation with the
writers who cover the team on a daily basis. Manning, the fifth-year quarterback
and reigning Super Bowl MVP, distinguished himself by his remarkable patience
and willingness to make himself available to the media, despite being more in
demand than any other player in the locker room.
Manning, in fact, has been cooperative ever since he arrived in New York under a
swirl of hype in April, 2004. And he's always dealt well and professionally with
the media despite being under more pressure and facing more criticism than any
player I've ever seen.
The award, in my opinion, is well-deserved - and probably overdue.
Several other Giants were considered for the award, including LB Danny Clark, DT
Barry Cofield, C Shaun O'Hara and G Chris Snee.
Previous winners of the award were:
2007 - DE Justin Tuck
2006 - WR Plaxico Burress
2005 - RB Tiki Barber
2004 - QB Kurt Warner
2003 - WR Ike Hilliard
2002 - QB Kerry Collins
2001 - OL Lomas Brown

Congrats to Eli, one of first awards that he rightly deserves, since
clinching the super bowl and winning the MVP of that. If the NFL ever
did most improved player, Eli would be the hands down favorite to win
that too. :)

Oh Eli is a lot more cuter than Michael. :) I think that what makes
similar also - how they went through incredible odds and became
champions. And it goes to show you, dreams really come true if you
work hard and deal with every negatively thrown at you with the
attitude "I really don't care what people think". :)

No, not at all. Considering Eli and Britney are celebrities. I think
its cool. Besides who really cares. People is the better magazine for
celebrity news anyways. And other people's news too. Its a good clean
magazine. I rather see them alongside Britney in People than US
weekly, Star, etc. Those are tabloids.
