DAY ONE
The United States Sport Jujitsu Team captures the Silver Medal in Team Free
style Fighting. Brazil wins the Gold and South Africa the Bronze. Team USA
against all odds after a four year absence from the Sport Jujitsu arena rose to
the occasion and did what many said could´t be done. Team USA a 10 to 1 underdog
once again proved to the world that they are among the most tenacious
competitors in the world. Congratulations TEAM USA!!!
Angie Woolum of West Virginia (USA)won by Knockout over a very game fighter from
Australia to capture the Women´s Super-lightweight World Title in the
Professional full contact division. A right leg shin kick to the thigh followed
by an over hand right sent her adversary down for the count.
Angie is now the undisputed ISJA World super-lightweight Champion.
Tomorrow will be the Individual Free-Style Fighting competition for the bragging
rights of being the best in the world. USA competitors to watch are Alicia
Hughes (West Virginia)who went undefeated in team competition. She was
definitely on her game today as she was very instrumental in Team USA´s
victories.
Ben Brotherton (West Virginia/Florida) and Corin Hughes (West Virginia) both
gave up more than 20 pounds per match as they moved up in weight class because
of injuries to USA´s heavier team members. Scott Layton (West Virginia) also
moved up in weight class to replace injured team mates. All three showed true
warrior spirit and made all Team USA proud of their performances. Tomorrow they
will be competing in their own weight classes rather than several weight classes
up.
Until then ¨Go Team USA¨!!!!!
