Hello fellow Sakurans,

Well let's start with, Holy Crappenfest! I seem to have gone for a 4th straight 10-5. I have no idea how that keeps happening. Seriously. Also I may have won both the Technique and Fighting Spirit prizes for Sandanme. I'm still waiting on the official results to be sure. So how did the rest of us do? I haven't quite paid much attention, and the daily mails seem to have been diverted into a black hole somewhere. Oh well, it happens. Hope we had some good bashos. Sorry to hear about your disappointing basho Kuramarujo. And I seem to remember hearing that Chabo also had some bad luck. Anyway, hope to hear that a few other of us had some happiness this basho.

Sincerely,
Saruyama (THE 10-5 drunken monkey, and by drunken, I mean right now.... seriously)

My fellow Blossomers,

I want to apologize for my poor showing this basho. Things just didn't
work out for me and you can't get KK by droning 12 of 15 days. With
some luck and a bit of favor from the Sumo gods, I will at least get KK
in January.

hi sakurans,

i am also getting caught up on my emails from the last few days, and i found this. i'm not sure how i feel about it, as it's not exactly a desired prize, is it? but then, i like getting prizes. other than this one. so i'm conflicted.

anyway, figured i would share.

all for now,

hi sakurans!

i'm sorry to say, i've been terribly busy and have been ignoring my computer for a good number of days now. the biggest victim of this has been my contributions to the sakura mail list. i haven't done a sakura daily mail in days. (it should be noted that my terrible record this basho isn't actualy because of my lack of time, i have actually put in a team every day this basho. i just am terrible this time.) so what i think i'll do is probably jsut a quick bout by bout for the days that i've skipped to get us back to today. that-a-way we can all at least see how each other are doing.

also, i've seen some good and some bad news in day 10's icf, so i'll report that too.

and if anyone wants to harp about something they've done (for instance, Rubensan or Saruyama) please do!

all for now,

chabonowaka

I have been unable to play much at all this basho. I'm already
1-7 and looking very bad. It doesn't help that, apparently, I picked some
bad choices for my team.

hi sakurans!

got busy at work, and nearly forgot to send this. :)

anyway, today was a decent day for sakura, as we went 6-5 on the day. actually, it was going really well, until we got to the makuuchi boys, who took an 0-3. ouch. also, i'm terrible. :(

today was a good technique day for us, too, as nobody finished with less than 12. that's pretty unusual. i'll have to have a look see at our MCP at some point. still, only 6-5, we coul have done with some better luck today.

among our winners were two perfecters, in K-jo and Yahjigawa. and Yahjigawa went GBL, too, so hooray for that!

sekihiryu said:
I don't hear as good as I used to, and I ain't as pretty as I
used to be. But I'm still here - I'm the Ram.
chabo says: no idea, i'm so bad at this. :)
and sakuran of the day? i choose Yahjigawa! i really like a perfect GBL win. those make me all warm and happy. great work Yahjigawa!

Bout 3 - Mattjila (jd19E) 12 [4-2] WIN! Jonanokuni (jd23E) 12 [1-5]
Mattjila wins on the fifth bench rikishi.
Bout 10 - Uiriikenshoryu (jd17W) 12 [5-1] WIN! Stowaway (jd10W) 9 [4-2]
Bout 20 - Chibi_IMO (sd13W) 12 [1-5] loss Hidariashiyama (sd16E) 14 [4-2]
Bout 23 - Kuramarujo (sd10W) 14 [3-3] Perfect WIN! Chininofuji (sd17E) 10 [1-5]
Bout 26 - Katsunomi (sd5E) 14 [3-3] loss Taniazuma (sd9E) 12 [1-5]
Bout 29 - Holleshoryu (sd3E) 9 [5-1] WIN! Saruyama (sd7W) 12 [4-2]
Bout 30 - Sebunshu (sd1W) 12 [2-4] Perfect GBL WIN! Yahjigawa (sd7E) 14 [3-3]
Bout 36 - sekihiryu (ms8E) 12 [3-3] WIN! Misisko (ms12W) 9 [1-5]
Bout 62 - Metzinowaka (M7E) 14 [1-5] loss (again) chabonowaka (M13W) 12 [0-6]
Bout 69 - Rubensan (M1E) 12 [4-2] loss dimitri (S1W) 14 [2-4]
Bout 70 - Rannohana (S1E) 12 [1-5] loss Itachiyama (M3W) 12 [3-3]
Rannohana loses on the second bench rikishi.

all for now,

hi again sakurans,

i'm back to relay to you our actual most recent results. oh, i've also realized that Yahjigawa isn't getting most of the emails i send out. we'll figure that out later. but for now i've copied his email address to this one, and away we go:

so today we went back to the bad day category. started out ok, Mattjila and uiriikenshoryu winning on the drone, but then we fell quite to pieces from there. Saruyama got our only other win, and along the way i fell to 0-5. yuck. i really really need to start doing well, or we'll have our first juryoan in quite some time. :)

there's not much good today about today, and i'm a positveness guy, so i think i'll leave it at that, and move on to our other regular segments:

 sekihiryu says:
It cant form complex machines, guns and explosives have
chemicals, moving parts, it doesn't work that way, but it can
form solid metal shapes
chabo guesses: is this terminator 2?

sakuran of the day? well, of our 3 wins today, two are on the drone, which is good, but i figure, since Saruyama put in his team, why not give it to him? good work today Saruyama!

Bout 4 - Mattjila (jd19E) 9 [3-2] WIN! Derufidurono (jd19W) 7 [2-3]
Bout 7 - mikeama (jd12E) 6 [2-3] WNI! Uiriikenshoryu (jd17W) 12 [4-1]
Bout 21 - Chibi_IMO (sd13W) 7 [1-4] loss DOKONONADA (sd14E) 14 [3-2]
Bout 22 - Kofuji (sd14W) 12 [2-3] loss Kuramarujo (sd10W) 11 [2-3]
Bout 25 - Saruwatari (sd6E) 9 [2-3] loss Taniazuma (sd9E) 7 [1-4]
Bout 28 - Marimo (sd3W) 9 [3-2] WIN! Saruyama (sd7W) 12 [3-2]
Bout 30 - Holleshoryu (sd3E) 12 [5-0] loss Yahjigawa (sd7E) 9 [2-3]
Bout 37 - sekihiryu (ms8E) 9 [2-3] loss Tosahayate (ms6W) 12 [4-1]
Bout 57 - Hashira (M16W) 9 [1-4] loss chabonowaka (M13W) 7 [0-5]
Bout 70 - Rannohana (S1E) 9 [1-4] loss Norizo (K1W) 14 [3-2]
Bout 71 - Flohru (S2E) 9 [4-1] loss Rubensan (M1E) 9 [4-1]
Rubensan loses on the third bench rikishi

best of luck all the rest of the way!

hi sakurans,

i've only just checked the mcp for day 4, looking to see if sakurans did anything interesting. and we did. :) so here i am.

what interesting did we do? well, i mean, it's kind of interesting, only if you think dominating the top of the daily mcp is interesting. we didn't finish with either of the top 2 mcp'ers for the day, but we did have the 3rd, 4th, and 6th best, coming from our 3 perfect scores. those were, in order, Mattjila, Rannohana, and Rubensan. also, this win propelled Rubensan to the 3rd spot in the overall MCP standings, so nicely done!

also, as of day 4, Saruyama was still top 20, at 19th, so he's still ready to take a run at the leaders at any moment.

and there was a bit of bad news, i had the 19th best score of the day, which sounds pretty good, considering that there are 148 active benchers this basho. but then i faced the 16th best lineup of the day, from tokugawa, so that didn't actually work out so well. apparently he didn't listen to me when i told him that i wasn't a threat and he could take it easy. :)

anyway, that's it for now, back again soon-ish with sakura day 5

hi sakurans,

here i am at Chibi's younger sister's gymnastics practice, where they fortunately have wireless internet, and i have nothing to do for an hour. :)

well, day 4 certainly was a good turn around for us. we had a nice 7-4, including 2 on the bench, and 3 perfect scores! this certainly is a good day, and brings us nearly back to being .500 for the basho as an ichimon.

today sekihiryu said:
Come to Los Angeles! The sun shines bright, the beaches are wide
and inviting, and the orange groves stretch as far as the eye
can see. There are jobs aplenty, and land is cheap. Every
working man can have his own house, and inside every house, a
happy, all-American family. You can have all this, and who
knows... you could even be discovered, become a movie star... or
at least see one. Life is good in Los Angeles... it's paradise
on Earth." Ha ha ha ha. That's what they tell you, anyway.
chabo guesses: ok, i should probably know this, but i don't. :)

sakuran of the day? jeez, so much goodness today, but i particularly like Rubensan really putting it to Randomitsuki, for an 8 point win. that's a big win. :)

i have another of these to do, so i'm keeping this short. back soon...

your bout by bout:

Mattjila (jd19E) 14 [2-2] perfect WIN! SAKU (jd22E) 11 [2-2]
Uiriikenshoryu (jd17W) 9 [3-1] WIN! Hana-ichi (jd12W) 9 [3-1]
Uiriikenshoryu wins on the first bench rikishi.
Chibi_IMO (sd13W) 12 [1-3WIN! Bogdanyama (sd15W) 9 [1-3]
 Fuguyanagi (sd9W) 9 [1-3] WIN! Kuramarujo (sd10W) 11 [2-2]
Hitotsuboshi (sd8E) 11 [2-2] loss Taniazuma (sd9E) 7 [1-3]
Saruyama (sd7W) 9 [2-2]
loss Yaochiro (sd8W) 11 [3-1]
Saruwatari (sd6E) 10 [1-3] loss Yahjigawa (sd7E) 9 [2-2]
sekihiryu (ms8E) 11 [2-2]
WIN! Mmikasazuma (ms14W) 11 [2-2]
sekihiryu wins on the first bench rikishi
chabonowaka (M13W) 12 [0-4] loss tokugawa (M12W) 12 [1-3]
chabonowaka loses on the first two point rikishi
Rannohana (S1E) 14 [1-3] perfect WIN! Frinkanohana (M3E) 12 [3-1]
Rubensan (M1E) 14 [4-0] perfect WIN! Randomitsuki (O2W) 6 [1-3]

best of luck to all the rest of the way,

we are, secretly, an ichimon just brimming with monkeys. i've been a monkey for years, and by extension, my daughter is a monkey too. plus she's goofy like me.

also, while i'm here, apologies for no daily sakura email yesterday. i hope to get out yesterday's and todays both today. hopefully. yesterday was taco day at work, and i am in the committee of folks who run that sort of gig, so was busy all day. and then last night was first night of basketball practice for chibi's little sister, so was busy in the evening too.

like i said, hopefully today,

So i just wanted to do a little chest thumping about this:

Pos +/- Shikona            Rank    DWP    MCP  Wins

===================================================

  1 +11 Hokuyutaka         Ms9w    0.993  1.918  2

  2 +2  Saruyama           Sd7w    0.905  1.884  2

  3 -1  Kaiowaka           M4e     0.857  1.850  2

  4 +19 Jakusotsu          M7w     0.946  1.796  2

  5 +12 Tamanaogijima      J12w    0.898  1.789  1

Look who's at number 2! YAY! This is the first time I have ever been on the top 5. Super awesomeness!

Also there was this to be happy about...

So I'm looking good at defending my Fighting Spirit Prize from last basho...

Of course having done all this chest thumping, I fear I may have doomed myself for the rest of the basho...

hi sakurans!

and it was another tough day for the sakura ichimon today. i didn't check through the various torikumi, so i don't know if it was official, but it was a sakuran MAIM (meet an ichimon mate) day today. we had 3 sakura-vs-sakura bouts today, which, based on the banzuke is really one less than the maximum that we could have in one day. so in those bouts we were even. :)

actually, K-jo took his first win, from the also winless Chibi_IMO, both on the drone. Saruyama took his first loss to Yahjigawa, in what is kind of Yahji-zeki's first bout as a recognized sakuran. if that makes sense. and in the makuuchi match, Rubensan remained undefeated, and Rannohana winless.

that left 5 folks not fighting against other sakurans, and we only one 1 of those bouts. Uiriikenshoryu (also on the drone) defeated Yassier to take our only loss-free bout of the day. i didn't drone, and i got stomped. i need to take a look at my methods or something.

anyway, sekihiryu was also apparently on the drone, based on his same comment as yesterday, so we were a pretty heavy droning group today. hopefully we'll have less droning and/or more success on day 4. i just sent chibi an email reminding her to do her team for tonight.

so back to business. welp, i think that the sakuran of the day is fairly obvious to me. i would normally point straight to the newest sakuran, but he faced another sakuran, so i think i'll wait a day on that one. :) instead i'm going to our only sakuran who defeated an outsider, Uiriikenshoryu, thanks Uirii-zeki, for helping me out like that. :)

alrighty, i should be working, so here's your bout-by-bout:

Mattjila (jd19E) 6 [1-2] loss Maeden (jd21E) 8 [1-2]
Yassier (jd13E) 7 [0-3] win! Uiriikenshoryu (jd17W) 9 [2-1]
Kuramarujo (sd10W) 9 [1-2] win! and loss Chibi_IMO (sd13W) 6 [0-3]
Taniazuma (sd9E) 6 [1-2] loss
Fuguyanagi (sd9W) 9 [1-2]
Yahjigawa (sd7E) 9 [2-1] win! and loss Saruyama (sd7W) 7 [2-1]
sekihiryu (ms8E) 6 [1-2] loss Kintsubasa (ms13W) 7 [2-1]
Maguroyama (M15W) 10 [3-0] loss chabonowaka (M13W) 6 [0-3]
Rannohana (S1E) 8 [0-3] loss and win! Rubensan (M1E) 9 [3-0]

best of luck the rest of the way all, GO SAKURA!!!!!

thanks, T'Rappa! this is also probably partly a concession related to our super awesome 2-8 (now 3-8) sakura result on day 2, isn't it? it's a good thing that the regularity of the oopsies makes this such a believable scenario. :)

hi there,

i'm back. you seemed at least partially interested when i emailed last, and i figured i'd check in with you once more before the basho begins about my request/offer for you to join the sakura fold. yea? nay? maybe? also, defintely no offense taken if it's a nay, but it's better to know than to wonder. :)

well, here's my take on sakura,

we'd love to have you. but in a low pressure sort of way. :)

we're not all rah rah, in the win sort of way. it really doesn't go any further than us all rooting for each other, and hoping we all do well. K-jo, as oyakata, pretty much only picks on himself when he does badly, and i'll send notes making fun of myself, too. this all happens on a side mail list we have.

other than that,  during the bashos, i post daily sakura results, to make it easy for everybody to see how we've all done on a certain day. there's also usually a little of banter before bashos, trying to see who's participating, and who folks think will be good.

mostly folks just lurk on the sakura mail list, it's me who does most of the posting. people will respond sometimes when i point out something they've done, like a GBL, or a funny comment in their bout. we will also hear from jejima, takanorappa, or jakusotsu, who are all on the sakura list, too, though they're on as visitors.

if you just want to check out the list before you join, you can send an email here,

but as it's after the basho, all we'll get are probably a few wrap-up posts from me. plus there will be talk about k-jo winning a yusho. which is weird. kofuji may be right, the world might be coming to an end.

i'm starting to drone on here. if you do want to join, just subscribe to the list (not required, but will help you keep up with what's going on) and send a note to probably jejima and takanorappa. and probably copy me and/or kuramarujo.

finally, i don't know if i'm helping or hurting my cause here, but i am by extension (my mother spends a lot of time down under) a fan of the manly sea eagles of the NRL. so, you know, go eagles!

all for now,

hello,

i'm doing a little ichimon recruiting on the sly, because it's a slow day at work, and i've targeted you. if you've ever thought about joining an ichimon in the game, i think sakura would be an excellent fit. figure we already have a couple of down-underians, you'd feel right at home! most of the time, it's just a group to associate with and root for, and we have a mailing list where i send stuff like daily results just for the ichimon, and pre-basho info on who i think will do well. i like it.

anyway, that's all for my marketing pitch, if you want to join, let me know, and we'd be glad to have you aboard. if not, ignore this email, and i will never spam you directly with this sort of request again. though you will see when i go begging to the whole group. :)

cheers,

chabonowaka

hi all,

i have some late news, Yahjigawa accepted my offer/request to join the sakura ichimon, so hooray for us!

i don't know if he will be official for the basho, and because of my goof up, i presume not, but he has accepted, and will be included in at least all of the sakuran stuff i do for the rest of the basho.

first off, let me catch you all up on his first two days of action, sakura-daily-email style:

day 1: Zeokage (sd6W) 12 [1-0] loss Yahjigawa (sd7E) 9 [0-1]
day 2: Yahjigawa (sd7E) 9 [1-1] WIN! Hitotsuboshi (sd8E) 7 [0-2]

so for day 1, that puts us at 6-5, and day 2 we're now at 3-8

just so you know, Yahjigawa, most of sakura had a really bad day on day 2. but hey, it's a new day now, and we have a new sakuran! :)

ok, so next, there's the sakura email list. aside from official Takanorappa/Jejima approval/knowledge, the other main thing is getting on the email lists for sakura emails. this is just the list where i pester everybody with my cheers and daily sakura basho results and other general goofiness. and as a reminder, everyone is always welcome to chime in as often as you like. :) (we have a lot of lurkers.)

anywho, to join the sakura email group, just do like so:

send an email to

and you'll be on the list. the rest is up to you!

best of luck the rest of the basho, Yahjigawa and all!

we're not all rah rah, in the win sort of way. it really doesn't go any further than us all rooting for each other, and hoping we all do well.

:) (we have a lot of lurkers.)

anywho, to join the sakura email group, just do like so:

send an email to

and you'll be on the list. the rest is up to you!

best of luck the rest of the basho, Yahjigawa and all!

chabonowaka

Yahjigawa, apologies for missing your response. i would like to blame the concussions, or the busy-ness of my life, or even the flood of emails, but in reality, i just missed your response. deepest apologies.

Do  I need to do anything or is the following enough...

I would like to join Sakura Ichimon.

Now about the secret handshake – team song and all that?

hi again sakurans,

i'm back, this time with the day 2 results. i don't at the time of writing this sentence know how things turned our for any of us, but i'm sure that will change soon. and then i'll back fill in bits of the email and all that.

do you remember the good old days? you know, when i didn't know how we did as a group on day 2? ah yes, those were good days. but now, now it's a different time. i've seen our day 2 results, and they're not pretty. on the bright side, we had two folks go perfect, those being Saruyama and Rubensan. but then on the other hand, if you didn't have a perfect score, so that means the other 8 of us, you lost.

so yes, we went 2-8, ouch. but there were two perfect scores. so that's something. :)

also, today sekihiryu said:
Wendy, let me explain something to you. Whenever you come in
here and interrupt me, you're breaking my concentration. You're
distracting me. And it will then take me time to get back to
where I was. You understand?
chabo responds: ooh, this one i know!. i am helped by my recent viewing of the shining, was on a few weeks ago, and we sat down and watched it. good times. also, this is from the shining. :)

sakuran of the day? pickins are slim, aren't they? so let's go with Rubensan and his perfect day, which vaulted him to victory over our lead ozeki. excellent work Rubensan, keep it up!

meanwhile, your day 2 bout by bout:

Bout 4 - Mattjila (jd19E) 7 [1-1] loss Uoichiba (jd20W) 11 [2-0]
Bout 6 - Uiriikenshoryu (jd17W) 9 [1-1] lossTakapinkuyama (jd14W) 14 [2-0]
Bout 22 - Rikishimiezi (sd11E) 11 [2-0] loss Chibi_IMO (sd13W) 9 [0-2]
Bout 23 - Kuramarujo (sd10W) 7 [0-2] loss Chocshoporyu (sd12E) 11 [2-0]
Bout 24 - Taniazuma (sd9E) 9 [1-1] loss Aome (sd10E) 12 [2-0]
Bout 27 - Zeokage (sd6W) 12 [1-1] WIN! Saruyama (sd7W) 14 [2-0]
Bout 36 - sekihiryu (ms8E) 11 [1-1] loss pandaazuma (ms9E) 11 [1-1]
sekihiryu loses on the first bench rikishi.
Bout 58 - Hakaso (M15E) 12 [1-1] loss chabonowaka (M13W) 10 [0-2]
Bout 69 - Rannohana (S1E) 11 [0-2] loss Doitsuyama (K1E) 12 [1-1]
Bout 72 - Charliki (O1E) 11 [1-1] WIN! Rubensan (M1E) 14 [2-0]

best of luck the rest of the way all, here's hoping we do better on day 3!

hi sakurans,

as promised, here's the sakura results for day 1. first, i'd like to say goshdarnit! first two days, i've been busy in the evening, and haven't reminded chibi to do her picks, so first two days droning for her. i'll definitely remind her tonight.

other than that the day went pretty well for us. not great, but not badly. we went 6-4 as an ichimon on day 1, including 1-1 on the bench. also, we were +6 for technique, which is always a good indicator for the day. we also had 1 perfect day, that of Saruyama, who went 4th in mcp, so nice work there.

sekihiryu's movie quote for day 1:
None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you.
You're locked in here with *ME*!
chabo says: as per usual, i am off to a slow start in knowing sekihiryu's movie quotes, as i don't know this one. :)

and as for the sakuran of the day, this one was pretty easy for me. it's a nice thing to start off your basho by winning with a perfect score, and we had someone do that, so i say Saruyama is sakuran of the day.

your bout by bout :

Bout 5 - Mattjila (jd19E) 7 [1-0] WIN! Kameumi (jd18W) 7 [0-1]
Mattjila wins on the fourth bench rikishi.
Bout 6 - Akokoneko (jd17E) 11 [0-1] WIN! Uiriikenshoryu (jd17W) 12 [1-0]
Bout 22 - Chocshoporyu (sd12E) 12 [1-0] loss Chibi_IMO (sd13W) 9 [0-1]
Bout 23 - Kuramarujo (sd10W) 10 [0-1] loss Rikishimiezi (sd11E) 10 [1-0]
Kuramarujo loses on the first bench rikishi.
Bout 25 - Yaochiro (sd8W) 9 [0-1] WIN! Taniazuma (sd9E) 12 [1-0]
Bout 26 - Saruyama (sd7W) 14 [1-0] perfect WIN! Hitotsuboshi (sd8E) 10 [0-1]
Bout 41 - sekihiryu (ms8E) 12 [1-0] WIN! tainosen (ms3W) 9 [0-1]
Bout 58 - Tsunamiko (M14E) 10 [1-0] loss chabonowaka (M13W) 9 [0-1]
Bout 71 - Rannohana (S1E) 9 [0-1] loss Konosato (M1W) 11 [1-0]
Bout 73 - Kintamayama (O2E) 11 [0-1] WIN! Rubensan (M1E) 12 [1-0]

and now off to check into day 2. i hope i did well. i hope you all did well too. :)
