The Rowers Club Philippines (RCP), originally called ‘Rowers Team’, was formed by Mr. Rommuel Celestino and Mr. Christian Jeoffrey Mariano on July 11, 1997 at Manila Bay dock site, behind of Philippine Navy Headquarters. It was formally recognized as an amateur dragon boat team by the Amateur Rowing Association of the Philippines (ARAP) last August 1, 1997.
Last year, RCP underwent a transition period that necessitated a major reorganization of the group's leadership structure. This in turn resulted to the change of RCP's name to 'Rowers Club Philippines SEA DRAGONS' or simply 'SEA DRAGONS'.
SEA DRAGONS regularly train more than forty (40) members in dragon boat paddling, which is one of the most rigorous, both physically and mentally. Our members consistently practice at the crack of dawn; warming up through stretching and aerobic exercises, members ready themselves for paddling in coordinated strokes and movements.
SEA DRAGONS was proclaimed champion in the 12-crew Ladies Open Event and 20-crew Intermixed Teams Open Race. They also bagged the 2nd runner up title in the 12-crew Intermixed Teams Open Race. These all took place in the 22nd Penang International Dragon Boat Festival which was held last June 10 &11, 2000. Locally, the men's crew won the championship, while the women's crew was proclaimed 1st runner up during the Mayor Lito Atienza Cup - 4th ARAP Annual Championship last De. 19, 1999. On the same event, it is also noteworthy to mention, that RCP has earned a profound degree of pride when it was proclaimed as the most improved and disciplined team and RCP's founder was pronounced as the 1999 ARAP's most outstanding leader of the year.
