Gents,
David Barber had a really cool idea that we allow the new managers to also draft
their draft picks out of those allocated to Gotham and Phoenix. This would
certainly add some extra strategy and intrigue to their draft, and the free
agent draft as well.
Using this method, we will revert back to the original draft model (with
Phoenix's picks at #6 in each round, and Gotham's in #19, with trades, etc.).
The only difference is that those picks are now labeled as "NEW" and they will
go to whichever teams choses them.
For example: One new team, the New York Bums select CCSabathis with their first
selection, the second team selects the 1st round (#6 pick) witheir first
selection, etc. When they are done drafting out of the pool of players and picks
from GOT and PHO, then they are free to wheel nd deal with all of you.
I'm going to post the info that sheet that I will give to new owners once we
have them on board. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
This certainly adds to the ability of our new managers to forge their own
destiny. I wish we would have thought of all of this sooner!
Benjamin
With two teams departing, we will hold our very first new manager draft. This
adjusted the draft order a bit, so please check the revised file. This process
will hopefully help attract new managers as they will be able to choose their
players and less likely to inherit a major rebuilding project by equally
distributing player between available teams.
If you know of anyone interested in joining the PCBL, let me know their name and
email and I will send them some information. Previous strat experience is
STRONGLY preferred.
I also sent out the league directory, so please look that over and let me know
if you have any changes.
To date no one has throw their name in the ring for commisioner. Nominations
will remain open until someone steps forward. I'll keep on keeping on until
then.
Later,
Benjamin
I regret to inform the league that I will not be able to continue managing the Gotham team. I want to cut down to 1 league, so I will be saying goodbye to PCBL. I believe PCBL is a good league and there is no reason to think it wont stay that way, but my other league is populated by many of my real life friends. So I really want to stick with that one.
The Gothom team should be solid for next year, especially the pitching. Goodluck everyone next year.
Here is a quickie list of former VTI players who are not crazy about the
relocation to Denver for 2010. All can be moved to address needs for LHB in the
OF and improvement at SS, 1B, or 3B. Serious offers only. Thanks - Greg

With the end of the 2009 post-season is the beginning of the 2010 pre-season!
I will post the preliminary 2010 Draft order. PLEASE check this as soon as
possible and let me know if you see any errors so that we can correct them. Any
errors not corrected by December 31st are no longer errors, but reality!
Greg Hamburg is re-locating his team from Vermont to Denver. Now known as the
Denver Elite Giants (that's pronounced E-LIGHT for you Negro League fans). I
guess the league was too small for two Ice Storms.
We still have one opening: Phoenix. The team has some excellent building blocks
and 4! first round picks in a deep draft. If you know of someone interested, let
me know. Previous strat experience is a MUST.
On a similar note, if you know right now that you will not be able to continue
in the league, please let me know as soon as possible. If we have more than one
team available, new owners will draft out of a pool of these teams players.
Interested in becoming Commisioner? My term is up and it is time for new blood.
If you are interested, let me know. We will set up an election for the office
with majority of league members (11) taking the office. If three or more folks
run and no one gets 11 votes, we'll hold a run-off election.
Questions? Comments? Post 'em.
Regards,
Benjamin
Gotham was able to win the series 4-1 thanks to some stellar bullpen work by Gotham relievers and the not so stellar bullpen of Southside. Boxscores and game files attached.
It looks like a rematch of last year's World Series as Lincoln is respresenting the AL again.
I've played playoff series head to head, netplay and over the phone in the past. The league was about fun and the games and not about deadlines. Things come up...as we found out by extending the end of the regular season deadline this year.
I've also played some of my playoff series in the past using the good ol' method of the team with the best record playing their home games and sending a manager for their road games. The team with the better record is still rewarded by being able to play the deciding game if the series goes that far.
Also this gives you the option of playing them on your laptop on a business trip or whenever you can find the time. It also prevents one manager's great season going down the drain due to a hectic couple of weeks where the real world came first. It wasn't the Red Sox vs. Angels, i.e. not real.
Another option would be autoplaying the games by the commish and if the series goes to a deciding game mandate that it be played via autoplay or by phone.
I know my life has changed drastically since I first joined this league. I went from being single to now having a wife, three children and a real job so there are times when I can't just drop everything for strat. Hell, our old commish gave up the gig after getting married and having a child. In the past when managers dropped out I couldn't understand why...know I can. It was fun when I could be a strat loser 24/7 but now maybe the writing is on the wall for me to bid adieu.
Subject: [pcbl92] RE: Net play and Monte's Playoff Beef
We aren’t moving to a regular season all net play league as far as I know. No one has made this suggestion. I certainly haven’t.
I understand Monte’s disappointment. Here’s my position on the playoff situation: Net play for playoffs is STRONGLY encouraged, one step short of mandatory (sorry for using that word in the past). I bent over backward to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules, giving over two weeks to get the first round of the playoffs in, which is extremely generous.
When Monte punted on net play, I made efforts to find a neutral manager to net play on his behalf. Unsuccessful, I allowed Larry to play the games vs. CM. The same situation happened and decision made between Gladstone and South Side, permitting Tim to play the games vs. Duane’s CM.
Less than ideal, sure, but I feel that managers who are willing and able to play should be given that choice because the playoffs are your reward for a great season. You should not be forced into an autoplay because someone is unwilling or unable to net play. I hate autoplays, especially for the playoffs.
If anyone has a reasonable solution to this disagreement, please make one and we will incorporate it into the constitution so we don’t have this situation next year.

8. Series winners get one day of rest prior to Division Championship
Series.
9. The World Series will begin two days after the completion of the
Division Championship Series. In the event that one team wins their series
in fewer games than the other, they will receive the difference of days off.
(For example, Team A wins their division series in six games and Team B wins
in seven games. Team A will receive three days off and Team B will receive
two days off prior to the start of the World Series.
10. Managers will be given a deadline to turn in instructions for the
playoffs and then World Series. This deadline is determined when the final
league file is finished.
11. Players used more than 110% usage during the regular season are
ineligible for ALL post season play.
I have to believe there is a middle ground between netplaying all regular season games and finding the time to squeeze in a maximum of 14 netplayoff games in a month. Not that my sad team will ever make the playoffs anyway...

please let me know if this league is moving to an all games played via netplay league prior to next season so i can be sure to tell my family that i will not be around during one week per month of the baseball season...FYI, i could not netplay my playoff games the last two weeks due to family and work issues and thus all my playoff games were played by my able opponent...not sure it would have mattered but i would have liked to at least autoplay my games rather than how it happened...thanks for a disappointed manager

Wow, fall must be a crazy time for everyone. It doesn't seem right to auto play games so important after such a long season so we are extending the date to finish the division series to Saturday, October 24th at midnight.
Hopefully we'll be able to get through the championship series and world series faster.

Sorry for the delay!
Attached is the LZP for the post-season. Please arrange to net play the games with your opponent. If you are unable to net play, you may designate someone to do so on your behalf. As a last resort, the games will be auto-played by a neutral person (someone not in the playoffs).
Post your CM to the files section of the Yahoo! site in the "0 Post-Season" folder.
Please post game files with box scores and play-by-play accounts by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18.
Let me know if you have any questions. Let's finish strong on this and get the post-season completed by the end of October.

Playoff results attached. Gotham wins the series in 7 games. No real big standouts, but Sabathia is the MVP for the series. Boxscores and gamefiles attached.
Greg and I played our series this evening, and the Southside Farm Equipment
defeated the Vermont Ice Storm 4 games to 1 in the NL Division Series. The Farm
Equipment got two wins from Chad Billingsley, just enough offense from people
like Jody Gerut, Denard Span, and James Loney, and swept the Ice Storm on the
road to take the series.
Files were posted separately labeled ALDS, because I don't apparently know which
league this is.
