Our favorite entertaining skater, Scott Hamilton, braved 17° weather (and a 1°
wind chill) to entertain the folks at Rockefeller Center and those watching at
home on the Today Show Friday, January 9, 2004 in New York City. He loves the
crowd, and the crowd loves him. There were definitely some skating fans that
showed up there just to see him. He started warming up at around 7:45 am, and
skated for the show at around 8:45am.
He skated very well, as he always does, using a chair as a prop and spinning
across the ice in it. During the performance, he would point to the section of
the crowd that he wanted to cheer, he would raise his arms and shake his hands
when he wanted all of us to cheer, and he would drop his arms sharply when he
wanted us to stop. During his interview with one of the Today Show hosts, he
admitted to being cold, skated his program, and got the heck out of there.
It was a pleasure to see him, and worth the trip even in that weather. I got
both home video and a few photos (the camera worked this time!) and I'll put the
photos in the photos folder within the next few days.
