I’ll bite…..didn’t think it was pretty by any means but thought we showed a bit of class, guts and endeavor, and worked well enough. These are the kind of games, away at <insert> on a miserable Monday night where you have to be able ( at least) to grind out a win – even when you’re not firing on all cylinders.

I was happy enough.

Gutierrez, on the other hand –bugger me – that lad will NEVER score as long as my bot points down if he doesn’t do more of the basics and better at them – the chance he tried to square across the goal with the triple suplex and the par-de-deux added for effect was SHOCKING…all he had to do was square the ball but no – Cheatadonna’s mate has to try to do a one-two with himself while moving at a reasonable rate of knots and ……bugger it up – no shock there…my manager would have pulled me aside and slapped me if I’d tried that and botched a guilt edged chance like that……and I would have taken it.

Less frills more football methinks The guy needs to do the basics – he’s obviously got skill and flair but it’s not going to come out until he gets onto a solid base of performances….I don’t think he’s shown that at all yet….despite his obvious talent. That said – can’t help but like him!

Howay!

The 'beast' aside, no real comments on our match against Preston lads?

I thought we were awful but fortunately have a few Premiership players who are able to make a difference at this level (Harper and Nolan for example) which are allowing us to see of teams like Preston. We rode our luck at times - they should have scored at least once when Kadar was beaten within seconds of him coming on.

Swansea on Saturday will be tricky - they are unbeaten in eleven. It's got draw written all over it.

He looks smaller than the last time I saw him, last year in the Cup-I believe he
was playing for a non-League side and he could score goals and given his size he
was quick and agile.

The Preston sub’s name is Parkin.

For info - in Yorkshire there is a particularly high fat, high sugar cookie called parkin.

It certainly looks like he has consumed plenty of it!

When Chelsea lost 3-2 at Coventry City in August 1997 despite dominating the majority of the game – Dion Dublin scored one of his three goals from the home side's only corner – their manager, Ruud Gullit, the former Ballon d'or winner, Fifa world player of the year, European Champion and two-time Big Cup-winner (we could go on) was bemused. "We must have had 99% of the game," he said afterwards, shaking his head. "It was the other 3% that cost us."

Since the fans are the one asset the club can really take to the bank and rely on come hell or high water, it makes total sense. I think it’s time all those rich Geordies-Sting, Mark Knopfler, Brian Johnson, Rowan Atkinson, Brian Ferry etc. etc. put their hands in their pockets and helped buy the club. Then we could run things like Barcelona-The Geordies are like the Catalans of England anyway. I’ve got no money but if I did I’d be willing to give it a go. I’d just love it of we could get NUFC out of the slimy grasp of the fatwan.

I've been seeing news about the Newcastle United Supporters Trusts plans to try and raise the fund to buy the club from Mike Ashley on a bunch of sites this morning (BBC, Soccernet, NUFC.com)

I am very excited about the idea, they still haven't released all the details as far as I can tell from their website so the verdict is still out. However, the whole deal with people contributing from their SIPPs looks like it could really help.

Personally if it still looks legitimate once they release more details I am planning on donating some money.

What does everyone else think of the idea?

This morning, I sent an email to a mate in Newcastle about this very subject.  I want to gauge the local sentiment before I do anything.

I did read that NUST is looking for GBP1,500 (about $2,500) from each interested party.  This will initially take the form of a 10% down payment (GBP150) to an escrow account.  If the required amount is not promised, the down payment will be returned - less GBP7.50.

I'm fence sitting at the moment - and might be for some time, bearing in mind that $2,500 is a fair chunk of change.

Cheers,

Sean

I was lucky enough to be there on Saturday and watching everyone who unfurled a banner demonstrating against the Fatwan being ejected was quite sickening. What he couldn't silence was the Gallowgate and Leazes chanting in unison "Get out of our club, get out of our club, you fat Cockney b@#tard, get out of club.

If they had half a brain they could simply say “St. James’ Park, sponsored by Yadayada” which doesn’t mess with the actual name and still gets the sponsor out front.  I think I could live with that if it would bring some money to the transfer kitty –else it’s pointless…

Ask any Denver Bronco fan (I am not one of them), and they will tell you its Mile High, not Investco Field (at Mile High).  Even The Denver Post refused to call it Investco Field initially.  I'm afraid in this era of money grabbing, clubs will be looking to sqeeze every dollar out of the revenue sponge.

Good win today in case anyone noticed we played.

Mike, I thought the same thing i.e. that there appeared to be no up-side to this move until the following occurred to me:

The difference is that Sports Direct is a publicly traded company as opposed to NUFC which is wholly owned.  My guess is that MA will be able to siphon enough money via legitimate sponsorship from his corporation to share/spread the impact of the Keegan tribunal with his stockholders.  If so, Keegan is paid by NUFC, without Ashley reaching into his own pocket, effectively avoiding any punishment at all.

Also, as Peter said earlier, it certainly does pave the way for others to come in with more lucrative offers in the future.  However, for the moment, it serves as a very convenient vehicle for Ashley to move more money from "column A" into "wallet B" (this is the same wallet in which he seems to holding on tightly to those transfer fees).  I'm pretty certain that I wouldn't be pleased as a Sports Direct stockholder to have the majority owner funnelling/directin g corporate funds into his personally owned business entities - but I'm not a stockholder, just a pissed-off supporter.

What I don't understand is - the only reason Ashley wants to rename the ground is to bring in extra revenue. However, the sponsor is HIS company and therefore he's not making any money by sponsoring his own club. Even as a 'placeholder' until next season doesn't make sense as now a). everyone in Newcastle hates Sports Direct just a little more and b). no company in their right mind would sponsor the ground through fear of having their services/products boycotted.

The quote about the sponsorship money being needed to strengthen the team is BS. Where's the 40-50 mil that we made selling half our squad this summer? Either Harewood and Lovenkrands are on wages higher than Michael Owen or Ashley has kept it all. Also the quote from Lambpenis about giving Hughton a million quid if we find someone (who can you get for a million quid nowadays?) and signing two 16 year olds (who wont make the first team probably ever) just shows that they signed Hughton so he could be the puppet and they could be the master.

I personally don't see what the big deal is. If when the time comes for a real sponsor to put their name on the stadium, as long as the money goes towards new players thats fine with me. It's still St James Park and always will be, no one can make you call it anything else.

Now the likelyhood of the money been spent on players is not very good but I think alot of fuss has been made over this, when we have bigger problems on and off the pitch.

It's just paving the way for others. This name is in place until the end of the season, then it is up for sale together with the shirt sponsorship. He is obviously hoping we will be conditioned to the name change by them - he still thinks we are docile mugs

This from the "Grauniad":

Newcastle have changed the name of their ground to an email address. St James' Park will be known for the rest of this season as sportsdirect. com@StJames' Park. Though justwhatkindofjoker isincharge@ StJames'Park would seem slightly more apt.

Bottom line is that it does not matter what folks call it...the revenue comes from putting their name of every piece of marketing collateral, every sound bite and every frame of video footage

New idea for a name is attached

If they had half a brain they could simply say “St. James’ Park, sponsored by Yadayada” which doesn’t mess with the actual name and still gets the sponsor out front.  I think I could live with that if it would bring some money to the transfer kitty –else it’s pointless…

E-mail I received below from the NUST, pie in the sky me thinks.

Today the Newcastle United Supporters Trust formally launches an
ambitious bid to take back our football club. We need supporters like
yourself to back a supporter takeover - for more information visit
www.nust.org.uk <../../../../>

There are a number of ways to invest in the club and after discussions
with serious Newcastle-based investors we believe that the time is
right for the fans to lead the charge and reclaim their football club.
The investment is backed by a local consortium of companies advising
the Trust, and we've made sure that any investment is safe and
guarateed to be returned to you if the bid fails.

The Yes We Can campaign will run for 6 weeks, and we have a financial
target which we are not announcing yet, as we want to negotiate from a
position of strength with Mike Ashley.

The fans can lead the way where others have failed - by standing
together and investing together - we can make our club the shining
beacon of honesty and integrity and bring the city together to save
our club from the current regime, its mistakes and its calculated
snubs.

When Derek Llambias said the fans could not buy the club - we said YES
WE CAN - and now we aim to prove it with your support.

All the teams will be doing this soon...I think Chelsea announced yesterday they were doing it and Arsenal gave up Highbury for the Emirates...progress . I could care less its always going to be St James whether you put wank direct at the front of it or not.

Good win today in case anyone noticed we played.

Chelsea were making a sub (joe cole?) Yesterday and the cameras showed a chelsea fan brushing his teeth - seems comparable to the prawn sandwich brigade at Manure

I am sure it was not an e-mail he sent, I am sure he must have some virus on his computer, or someone has logged in to his account, Seen these other e-mails on other groups before.

Great result at the weekend however.... Nice to get a wee bit of revenge from the game earlier in the season.
