resending as the guidelines were not readable :-) funny isn't it :-)
As we go into winter season, days will be wet and ground conditions will deteriorate. It's not new to many teams, we have been playing games in typical Seattle drizzle for a long time now.
Umpires make the call for stopping/pausing or abandoning the game. Umpire must make every attempt to play the game.
Please update your team members and umpires with the guidelines given below
Thanks Ilyas
Some guidelines:
Players safety: It's the utmost important thing. Umpire should pay attention to fielders slipping, bats slipping from batsman hands while batting, bowlers slipping etc.
Ground condition: water pools in the outfield, difficult to run due to wet and soft outfield
Pitch condition: water on the pitch, water splashing after pitching.
Weather condition: pouring rains or snow. Cold weather is OK to play
Before calling off the game umpire should make at least two attempts to play the game. They can pause for 10-15 and see if the conditions improve.
For every stoppage, deduction of overs is mandatory. For every 5 minutes deduct 1 over.
Match Start : if match start is delayed due to fog/bad light/rains etc then the overs will be deducted. Eg if the delay is 30 minutes then the match becomes 13 over a side.
First innings in progress: if the match is stopped for 10 mts then 1 over from each side is deducted
Second innings: If the second innings is in progress then there won't be deduction of overs. Either match is completed or abandoned. We'll have to figure out some sought of rules next season to tackle this. DL rule is pretty complicated, might require a laptop J
If the game is stopped before 3 / 4 completion then it will be termed as abandon. If its stopped after 3 /4 then team with higher run rate wins the game

For tomorrows games – hopefully weather will turn good if not
then morning teams and umpire will arrive and assess the situation like today. If
the situation is very bad like today then ARCL will send emails to cancel the
games.
If u don’t see any emails from ARCL then teams and umpire will
have to go to the ground and assess the situation.
I agree that cancellations should be sent early on but for ARCL
to predict playing conditions a day before is going to be difficult.
[NiharN] Sherwyn,
you said it’s difficult to predict playing conditions and you have just
underlined our point. For the same reason the call to cancel each game needs to
be made by the umpire of the game on location and not someone in Redmond
sitting in an office trying to predict how the playing conditions are. It’s
also unfair for the umpire of the morning game to recommend cancellation of all
the games for the day - If there are puddles on the ground, let the
teams/umpire for that particular game decide.
We are not going to get too many sunny/dry days at this time of
the year and I expect to be playing and finishing the season sooner rather than
later where weather is not going to get any better. Playing in regular Seattle
weather (Rainy) is expected according to me.
[NiharN] Yes and it was very
much playable if the umpire had been there. The other issue at hand is the timing of
the cancellation. The mail from ARCL to cancel the 10:30 am game came in @
10:07 am. By that time pretty much every one is on their way, where it would
have made sense for the umpires and the two present teams to make the call.
Having said this, the umpire for our game was not present at the time the game
was scheduled to start.
I strongly recommend to make decision about Sunday’s games by
today. I know we had some injuries last year at Ron Regis, so I am fine with
cancelling the games.
It would be good if we can know about it asap (by late
afternoon), so that we can plan.

as reason to not play. They knew briefly sun was out and it was very much
playable but just kept saying “games is cancelled as per ARCL mail, discussion
over” and walked away. ARCL rule clearly says that games will go on in
Seattle like weather and it will be mutual team and umpire decision whether to
proceed or not. Umpire was not present. We had whole team there waiting next 45
minutes for other team to come back.
Because of the mix up, we should be
awarded 30 points.

Thanks to our web team (Debbie/Priya) we have a new look to our website. Please go to www.arcl.org to check out the new UI and all the new functionality we have added and as always feel free to give feedback.
Here are some of the updates that have been made on the ARCL site:
1)Changed the logo to the new one (note the cute cricket balls on the site ;))
2)Changed the look and feel of the site to a new color scheme.
3)Replaced home page with announcements;
4)Added a Stars of the week section - that displays the winners of the week, the best bowler of the week and the best batsman of the week - just the very best, not per div.
5)Changed the login to display who logged in and to display the team links and a logout link when logged in (removed the cludgy secure links)
6)Changed the directions page to be more friendly (since it is used quite a bit)
7)Changed the FAQ to fit within a screen and distributed the content across tabs
8)Moved the home page content to an 'About us' page.
9)Cleaned up ARCL info and replaced it with Download links ;
10)Organized download links to be more helpful
11)Moved Division links to a tabbed header bar.
12)Added an ARCL gallery link, to contain photo albums (working on it) and video.
13)Generally changed most pages to match the new color scheme and to look better.
I am interested in playing .Can you please include me in a team.
Thank you.

Hi all,
We will be holding the prize ceremony for Spring 2009 season on Saturday 12th September in Cafe 40/41 (Microsoft Main Campus) at 3 o clock sharp. All teams are encouraged to join us. Teams that will be receiving trophies need to send a representative as unused trophies will be returned (NO EXCEPTIONS).

None of us who attended the meeting suggested not having the Summer league at all. For this particular year since the Spring league went all the way till Aug mid, we felt having a Summer league so late wont be a good idea. Since the weather tends to get very unpredictable in Sept.
Also instead of having double round robin for Spring league, we suggested a single round robin so that 2 leagues could be played comfortably.
I also would suggest to ARCL to start scheduling the one day tournaments soon while the weather is still good.

Thanks,

Considering NWCL takes a lot of time and energy, its completely understandable that NWCL girls may not want to play two leagues in ARCL, but the girls who play only for ARCL might want to play summer league. In the interest of ARCL players, NWCL girls may want to consider skipping ARCL summer league instead of suggesting to completely take out summer league.
ARCL women's league is a great way to promote cricket among women here and ARCL board am sure is always thinking of improving the cricket enthusiasm among women in the region.
Instead of cutting short on league games, promote NWCL and ARCL separately. I know of many girls who used to play in ARCL before, but dont play anymore because they felt it a waste of time as they never get a chance to actually play in the game.(being a part of playing 8 is not what I mean by play in the game, bowling a few overs or batting a few balls is what I mean...)
One day tournaments with ARCL board forming teams is a very good idea and it would be great if a few of those games can be conducted every year.

Schedule folks already adressed some of your concerns but i want to re-iterate that ARCL is very flexible for women's league and most of our decisions are purely based on feedback we receive from you folks. I understand you were unable to make it to the meeting but we will really appreciate if you and other team contacts can reply back and let us know if you will be making to such meetings. That way if majority is busy we can always reschedule.
As for keeping one league, it was mainly due to strong feedback we received from teams that did show up. We can revisit it if majority thinks otherwise. Our plan was to have more regular 1 day tournaments in the meantime. That seemed like a popular thing when we tried it last time.

Anupama, Your feedback is well taken. Yes it's partially true that lack of time is prohibitng us from keeping a summer league. But we could've worked out a smaller summer league if teams want to play. We got quite strong feedback that teams do not want to play in ARCL because they're practicing with hard ball (team representatives of women teams told us that). Rest assured, if teams do reply back in time to play a summer league we will keep it (even though it may be short). In lack of the sufficient data that teams did want to play, ARCL decided not to keep summer league.
Regarding one league per year, we got some feedback from representatives of the team. Therefore, we decided to keep one league per year (double round robin) and a few one-day tournaments. Again it is up to the teams to decide how much they want to play. We do encourage teams to play in ARCL as much as they want. It's not the decision set in stone and we can keep a poll to ask teams if they want to play 2 leagues in a year.
Lastly, ARCL is not part of NWCL but we do provide opportunites for teams to play in NWCL. We do it in men too where we give exceptions to teams on their NWCL game day.
Thanks for the minutes, sorry for not making it to the meeting. I have a few questions. 1. Is NWCL part of ARCL, is there a partnership, or is it a "league of it's own"? 2. I understand there are about 10 odd players in NWCL, how is that considered "lot" when compared to 30+ players in ARCL? Also, NWCL matches are not so frequent compared to the ARCL league.
3. From your poll that you recently sent out, looks like 80% of the votes so far is shying away from the "hard" tennis ball. Having said that I can talk for majority folks in the ARCL league that they don't intend moving to a "leather ball" league.
There's always new interest to Cricket, and ARCL is the perfect arena for newbies. Am sure Bijlee/Toofan/Hungamma and other teams will agree to this. We"ve seen a lot of new players in our teams last league.
In my opinion, it's more of a timing issue for not having the summer league, and that's acceptable, but I do urge you to re-think your decision about having only one league.Â
We do love ARCL ;) (sort of). Thanks, Anupama

In my opinion, it's more of a timing issue for not having the summer league, and that's acceptable, but I do urge you to re-think your decision about having only one league.
We do love ARCL ;) (sort of). Thanks, Anupama

Thanks for your feedback Anupama. Your feedback is appreciated.
That seemed like a popular thing when we tried it last time.
thanks salman

As a follow up to the Women's Captains meeting last week, we request all teams to respond to the following poll by Tuesday, September 1st 2009: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/448977
Please restrict to 2 responses per team. Based on the results of the poll, we will be making changes to the format for the upcoming leagues.
Thank you! ARCL Management

All, The women's updated schedule (with revised dates for semis and finals) is now posted on ARCL website. We know there's a possible conflict for final game with NWCL game on 8/15 weekend but I have not recieved any confirmation on those dates.
Once confirmed on the dates, we will move out the dates or keep them as necessary.
